The Lyon Prize will be awarded to recognize outstanding undergraduate
work in photography, including but not limited to fine art photography
and documentary work. The prize is administered by the College of
Environmental Design.
The Prize
Funded annually from an endowment established in memory of Matt Lyon,
$1,000 will be available each year for the Lyon Prize. A single award
or two awards of equal or varied amounts will be presented, at the
judge’s discretion. The prize-winner’s work will be featured
on the Lyon Prize web site and may be exhibited in the College of
Environmental Design.
Eligibility
All enrolled UC Berkeley undergraduate students, in any major or undeclared,
are eligible.

What to Submit
Each entry must include these elements:
• Photographs: Each entry should include 5 photographs on a single theme of the photographer's choice. Only prints should be submitted - no slides or CDs. Black and white, color, or digitally produced images are acceptable. The images should be no smaller than 5"x7" and no larger than 16"x20". Photographs should not be mounted, matted or framed and should be submitted in a protective box, envelope or portfolio case.
• Written description:
Include a brief written description (400 words maximum) of your submitted work, stating your theme or describing your project and why you chose to pursue it. You may include a title sheet and brief captions for each photo submitted, but this is not required.
• Information card: Each
submission must include a 3"x5" card with the following
information:
Entrant’s name
Address
Phone number(s)
E-mail address
Complete student identification (SID) number
Major
Class year
• Identification: Entries are anonymous
— each photo and each written page should be labeled with
the last four digits of the entrant’s SID number.
Judging
A single judge, noted in the field of photography, will evaluate
the submitted work and select the winner. A new judge will be appointed
each year.

After the Judging
The winner of the prize will be notified by the end of April. All other entries will be available to be picked up in 232 Wurster Hall between May 1 and June 1. Materials not reclaimed by June 1 will be discarded.
