Telecommuting Policy Gets OK

Work Schedule Alternative Now an Option for Staff

The campus telecommuting policy is now official, following campus development and comment.

In approving the policy, Chancellor Tien said it will "enable [staff] to achieve a more successful balance between work responsibilities and family life."

The policy is supplemented by guidelines for developing telecom-muting agreements, a model agreement, a checklist for developing telecommuting proposals and a safety checklist for employees' alternate work sites.

The text of the policy and attachments were sent to deans, directors, department chairs and administrative officers in May.

It is available on the Human Resources Web site at the following address: http://hrweb.berkeley.edu/POLICY/Hrpolicy.htm

For more information about alternate work schedules and telecommuting, talk to your supervisor or to your department's employee relations specialist.

The Employee Relations Unit in Human Resources plans to offer workshops on this topic in the fall.
