State Senate to Hold Education Hearing On Campus

Admissions and access to the University of California will be examined Sept. 22 on campus during a hearing held by a state Senate subcommittee on higher education.

The hearing will be held in room 150, University Hall, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with an hour break at noon.

Sen. Teresa Hughes will chair the session with a welcome from Chancellor Berdahl. The morning session will focus on medical and law school admissions under the Board of Regents' SP-1, the decision that banned the use of affirmative action in admissions.

The afternoon session will include topics such as "enrolling a student body," an historical look at admissions, an explanation of the admissions process and a review of the impact of SP-1.
