Benefits

Beginning Jan. 1, newly hired faculty and staff will enroll in benefits using the university's interactive telephone system, bencom. fone.

Since enrollments will occur electronically, all new employees must complete and sign the new personal identification number (PIN) authorization form, which authorizes the university to act upon an employee's instructions and take deductions from his or her paycheck.

Beginning Dec. 1, all paperwork for newly hired employees forwarded to the payroll section of Human Resources and Financial Services must include the PIN Authorization form.

It is critical that departments process employment paperwork quickly to establish employees in the Payroll Personnel System well before the end of the period of initial eligibility (31 days from the date of hire).

Employees who try to enroll using the telephone system will be blocked from taking action unless the PIN authorization form has been received and recorded by the Payroll Personnel System.

Initially, only employees who are new to UC (those who have never worked at a campus, lab or medical center) will be able to take advantage of this new enrollment method.

Eventually most benefits transactions will take place using the interactive telephone system or a web application currently under development.

For the time being, however, all employees not part of the above group should continue to use current enrollment procedures.
