New Book From Anthropology Professor Dundes

Alan Dundes, professor of anthropology and folklore, is the author of "From Game to War and Other Psychoanalytic Essays on Folklore."

The new 119-page study, published by University Press of Kentucky, uses psychoanalytic theory to offer new perspectives on traditional games such as American football and soccer, the popular saga of William Tell and the underpinnings of antisemitism.

Dundes argues that "'Freudian' symbolism antedated Freud" and that he "did not invent the symbolism but rather articulated a symbolic code that was already known in some sense to the folk."
