American Evangelicalism

Jon R. Stone, a lecturer in religious studies in the Division of Undergraduate and Interdisciplinary Studies, is author of the new book “On the Boundaries of American Evangelicalism: The Postwar Evangelical Coalition.”

Published by St. Martin’s Press, the book, says scholar Benton Johnson, is “a fascinating account of how the theological discourse of those who created America’s postwar neo-evangelical coalition was shaped by their determination to create a religious community that was neither fundamentalist nor modernist.”

Beyond recounting the history of postwar evangelicalism, the book contributes to an understanding of ideological movements and the construction of boundaries and the shifts that occur within them over time.
