New Century Campaign Milestones
- July 1, 1993
- Campaign counting begins.
- June 1994
- Campaign receives largest gift in Berkeley's history, $25 million
from an anonymous donor. Walter and Evelyn Haas Fund pledges $10 million
for new basketball arena.
- July 1, 1994
- Cal Annual Fund inaugurated. November 1995 - Campaign crosses the
Pacific with Asian Leadership Conference in Bali, Indonesia. Subsequent
conferences held in Thailand and Taiwan.
- September 1996
- "The Promise of Berkeley: Campaign for the New Century"
is formally announced at kick-off dinner in Doe Library.
- July 1997
- Richard Goldman contributes $10 million to establish the Richard and
Rhoda Goldman School of Public Policy.
- September 1997
- Campaign unveiled in Southern California.
- October 1997
- First Alumni Homecoming and Reunion takes place. Parents Weekend joins
event the following year.
- August 1998
- A $50 million gift from an anonymous donor, setting new record as
the largest bequest in the campus's history.
- April 16, 1999
- Campaign crosses $1 billion mark.
- December 1999
- Whitaker Foundation pledges $15 million for bioengineering. Campaign
crosses $1.1 billion goal.
- September 2000
- Wayne and Gladys Valley Foundation awards campus $25 million for new
research facilities in biomedical science.
- December 31,
2000 -
Campaign officially ends with more than $1.3 billion raised.
