New Chronicle of UC issue available
What was the University of California like in 1900, and how has it changed in the century since? What may it look like in the future?

The Chronicle of the University of California explores these questions in its newest issue (no. 4), titled "The University at the Turn of the Century: Then and Now."

In its pages are articles on the library in 1900 and 2000, the physical campus, major educational and archeological undertakings, changing administrative structures, summer sessions, the university's broader role in education in the state, among others. Contributors include campus administrators and directors, faculty, research fellows and specialists, and others whose knowledge of the university adds lively insights.

Copies are available at the Cal Student Store, or may be ordered from Chronicle of the University of California, CSHE, South Hall Annex, UC Berkeley, 94720-4650 or from Carroll Brentano (cbrentan@socrates. berkeley.edu).

UCRS Advisory Board election 2001
In March, non-Academic Senate members of the University of California Retirement Plan will elect a member to the retirement system's advisory board. The board develops ideas or new approaches to the provisions of retirement system benefits and communicates them to the university president.

Voting begins March 1 and ends at midnight, March 31. Votes will be cast and tabulated by means of an automated telephone system.

The candidates are: Susan Angstadt, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory; Anne Fink, UC Irvine; Jessea Greenman, Berkeley; Ralph Howard, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory; Danny Kim, UC Riverside; Darda Swanson, Berkeley; and Dianne Walker, Berkeley.

Election materials, including candidate statements and step-by-step instructions for voting, will be mailed at the end of February. Plan members who have not received election materials by March 10 should call UC Human Resources Customer Service at (800) 888-8267.
