Cal Day Info
Cal Day, Berkeley’s annual open house, takes place Saturday, April 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Enjoy lectures, sports, art, music and tours at venues all around campus. A complete schedule of events will be posted at http://www.berkeley.edu/calday after April 1.

Students who dream of going to college will find a special package of programs just for them at Cal Day.

Making its debut this year, the “Kindergarten to College” resource fair offers activities and workshops for students, their families and K-12 teachers on how to prepare for a university education.

In a special effort to expose Bay Area middle school students to the prospect of college, six busloads of students and their families will be brought to campus to partake in these special programs.

Fair participants can learn more about financial aid, admission policies and academic planning at various events around the campus.

Among the offerings are “College: Making it Happen,” sponsored by the Early Academic Outreach Program, where middle school students can get tips on preparing and paying for college. A video on student success stories and presentations by representatives from UC, California State University, community colleges and private institutions are also featured.

The program begins at 9:30 a.m. in 2050 Valley Life Sciences Building. A Spanish version will be presented at the same time in 2040 Valley Life Sciences Building.

The undergraduate admissions office will share tips with high school students on the campus’s admissions policy, the application process and how to write personal statements, starting at 2 p.m., in 2 LeConte Hall.

ArtsBridge, the outreach component of Berkeley’s Art Consortium, presents a roundtable discussion on the value of arts in education at 1 p.m. in 160 Kroeber.

The group is also sponsoring an 11 a.m. dance performance by Bay Area school children and an art exhibit, “Bright Minds, Strong Voices: Art by California Children,” both in the Worth Ryder Gallery in Kroeber Hall.

Special one-hour walking tours for young prospective students will depart from Dwinelle Plaza at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. During the stroll, student tour guides highlight Berkeley history, point out famous landmarks and share information about campus life.

A “Kindergarten to College” information area will be set up on Dwinelle Plaza, with representatives from a number of Berkeley outreach groups, including Cal Corps, Bridges, Break the Cycle, Berkeley Academy and the SAGE Scholars Program.

Visit http://www.berkeley.edu/calday after April 1 for information on the resource fair.
