Hats off to California Nobel tradition
Tickets available for Centennial celebration in San Francisco

04 September 2001 | Beginning Wed., Sept. 5, tickets are available to a special Friday, Oct. 26 symposium celebrating the California Nobel Prize Centennial.

According to the Consulates General of Sweden, which initiated the centennial program last year, California has the largest concentration of Nobelists in the world.

From Oct. 24-27, celebrations will take place in San Francisco and Los Angeles. At the Oct. 26 event, held at San Francisco's Exploratorium, Nobel Laureates — including economist Daniel McFadden and physicist Donald A. Glaser, both from Berkeley — will discuss the impact of the prize on their lives and the world.

A preview of a new KQED documentary on Nobel Laureates will be screened, and one of the day's sessions will feature high school students interviewing a panel of Nobelists about what future prize winners might address.

To purchase tickets, call the Exploratorium at (415) 561-0308 or e-mail reservations@exploratorium.edu with your name, address, daytime phone number, and number of tickets. General admission is $25, but if you're affiliated with an institution that's a partner in the symposium — including UC Berkeley, Stanford and UCSF — mention the words "partner rate" to buy $15 tickets. The day includes break refreshments, a box lunch and a reception, where you might meet a Nobelist in person.
