Stanley Berger
Stanley Berger, professor of mechanical engineering and bioengineering, has been elected to chair the Division of Fluid Dynamics, one of the 14 divisions of the American Physical Society. Berger’s research has focused on a variety of issues in fluid dynamics, including the biomechanics of blood flow.

Squeak Carnwath
Twelve artists, among them Professor Squeak Carnwath of the Department of Art Practice, have been awarded the 2001-02 Flintridge Foundation Award for Visual Artists. The award honors West coast artists in fine arts and crafts media whose work demonstrates high artistic merit and a distinctive voice dating back 20 years or more.

Carnwath’s large-scale compositions employ personal symbols, patterns of colored bars and squares, and stream of consciousness observations in her continuing quest for self-knowledge. The Flintridge award carries an unrestricted grant of $25,000.

Virgil Schrock
The Japanese Society for Multiphase Flow awarded honorary membership to Professor Emeritus of Nuclear Engineering Virgil Schrock for the "deep appreciation of the society for his outstanding contribution in the area of multiphase flow science and technology."
