Berkeley’s “Main Street” carries more pedestrian traffic than any other campus thoroughfare. The foreground of many of the historical buildings in the classical core of the campus, it has never lived up to its setting and role — remaining a wide, asphalt corridor unrelieved by street furniture or appropriate paving. The addition of lighting, street furniture, landscaping features, and signage are envisioned as part of a future historic-landscape plan.
