Half a dozen hearts in the right place

12 February 2003

In anticipation of Valentine’s Day, the Berkeleyan put out an informal call — asking staff in academic departments and administrative units around Berkeley to tell us about individuals who are particularly beloved in their corner of the campus. We heard of many staffers known for their joie de vivre, compassion, humor, sense of fairness, and other exemplary qualities. Few of those named typically get much ink; as one staffer said of a coworker: “She’s rarely recognized, because she’s always the one recognizing others.” Thus, it’s a special pleasure to acknowledge a few of the big-hearted individuals who brighten the working days of many here at Berkeley … in the words of coworkers who know — and love — them best.
