Jimmy Carter to speak at Zellerbach on May 2
Free tickets available for students on Thursday; limited faculty and staff tickets to be distributed via lottery

25 April 2007

Former President Jimmy Carter will speak on Wednesday, May 2, at 4:30 p.m. in Zellerbach Hall on the subject of his latest book, Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid (Simon & Schuster).

The event is co-sponsored by the ASUC and the campus.

Admission is free, but tickets are required; tickets are limited to one per person and are not transferable.

Eighty percent of tickets for the event will go to students. Student tickets will be available - on a first-come, first-served basis - beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 26, at the Cal Performances box office in Zellerbach Hall.

A lottery will be held to distribute the 150 tickets available for current faculty and staff (retirees are not eligible). To enter the lottery, visit urel.berkeley.edu/events and fill out the required information no later than Sunday, April 29. An employee ID number is required to register.

The lottery drawing for faculty and staff tickets will be held on Monday, April 30, at 2 p.m. on Lower Sproul Plaza; winners will be contacted by e-mail and need not be present at the drawing.

Those selected must pick up their tickets from the Cal Performances box office on Tuesday, May 1, between 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Winners must present their Berkeley faculty or staff ID. Tickets not claimed by 5:30 p.m. on May 1 will be distributed to those on the waiting list from the drawing.

Doors will open for the May 2 event at 4 p.m. No backpacks, large bags, banners, or posters will be allowed into Zellerbach Hall.

Carter will be available to sign books on the day of the speech from 3 to 4 p.m. in the ASUC Senate chambers in Eshleman Hall, where Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid will be on sale.

Plans are being made for a live webcast of the event. Details will be available soon at newscenter.berkeley.edu.
