Campus invited to celebrate completion of new CITRIS building on Feb. 27
A ribbon-cutting ceremony and festive open house featuring guided tours and interactive exhibits will highlight the public opening of the new CITRIS headquarters building on Friday, Feb. 27. Sutardja Dai Hall — more prosaically known as the Davis Hall Replacement Project during construction — is the new home of the four-campus Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony and remarks take place starting at 2:30 p.m.; the open house gets under way at 3 p.m., and festivities continue until 5 p.m. Advance registration is suggested; for information, visit coe.berkeley.edu/citris-opening, e-mail, or call 643-7101.
Feb. 20 is the deadline for Sarlo Awards nominations
In response to a call issued by the Graduate Division, nominations for the 2009 Sarlo Distinguished Graduate Student Mentoring Award (for faculty) and the Sarlo Distinguished Graduate Student Mentoring Award (for junior faculty) must be received by this Friday, Feb. 20.
Awards of $5,000 each will be made to one faculty member of open rank and to one junior faculty member. The awards are made possible by a gift from the Sarlo Foundation, which supports the promotion of excellence in teaching. Nomination letters and any supporting letters, along with a nomination cover sheet, must be received by Friday, Feb. 20, at 4 p.m. Send or deliver nominations to Sarlo Awards, Graduate Division, Dean’s Office, 424 Sproul Hall, Berkeley, CA 94720-5900. The 2009 award ceremony will be held on Wednesday, April 22.
Hellman Family Faculty Fund applications due March 9
The Hellman Family Faculty Fund, which provides research support for assistant professors who show capacity for great distinction in their research, is now accepting applications; the deadline is Monday, March 9. Awards will be announced in May.
