The City of Berkeley now has a contract with the University that calls for coopoerative management of Berkeley's most famous park New Agreement on People's Park
The Berkeley City Council has unanimously approved a new agreement on People's Park.

Replacing the city's expired five-year lease on portions of the park, the City of Berkeley now has a contract with the University that calls for cooperative management of the Southside plot.

The city will provide day-to-day supervision and recreational programming for Cal students and community members. The University will pay for city services as well as capital improvements and design services, major maintenance and repair, refuse collection, and utilities. Recreational Sports will administer the contract and supervise programs for Cal students at the site.

A "Long Range Conceptual Plan" for the park calls for removal of the sand volleyball court and an expanded lawn area for sports and recreation. The city and University will jointly select a community advisory board for the park.
