The community organizations that UC Berkeley students will assist include:
* Berkeley Youth Living with Disabilities House
2110 7th St. (near Addison Street), Berkeley
Students will spruce up the inside and outside of this house for children. Work will include gardening, touch-up painting and cleaning.
* Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency (BOSS)
59th Street between Adeline and Market streets, Berkeley
The BOSS Urban Garden Institute is developing a food production and distribution system to support shelters and enhance Berkeley neighborhoods. Students will weed, mulch and prune.
* North Hill Landscape Committee, Firestorm Memorial Garden
Intersection of Tunnel Road and Hiller Drive
Students will do pruning, weeding, mulching and planting in a garden honoring the victims of the 1991 Oakland Hills fire. Students also will learn about vegetation management to reduce fire dangers.
* Restoration of Cerrito Creek
3288 Pierce St., Richmond (Cerrito Creek is at the south edge of the Pacific East Mall parking lot).
Students will work on 900 feet of creek, clearing weeds and planting native plants. They will take a short walk to see the mortar rocks of the former Ohlone village and the unusual native plants on Albany Hill.
