Most UCLink e-mail restored, but another temporary outage is planned

– The UCLink e-mail system is back in service and most mail messages have been restored. However, hardware problems are continuing, resulting in another planned system outage Monday evening (3/17).

Technicians from HP/Compaq continue to diagnose the UCLink system's hardware and software, and have discovered additional components that need to be replaced. As a result, the UCLink system will be down from 9 p.m. until possibly midnight Monday night to accomplish this.

E-mail inboxes for UCLink accounts starting with the letters B and J through O were restored over the weekend. This may have resulted in users getting duplicate copies of mail they had seen before. As of late Monday afternoon, inboxes for accounts starting with the letters A, C, and D were still being restored. Other server-based folders for all these affected accounts have not yet been restored.

Mailboxes starting with the letters E-I and P-Z are fully available and were not damaged by the disk failure on March 7 that corrupted other mailboxes. These accounts have all of their e-mail.

Students who are concerned that they may have missed deadlines or lost academic material because of the system failure are urged to talk to their instructors to make alternative arrangements.

Updates on UCLink's status will continue to be available at http://www-uclink.berkeley.edu.
