Memo to parents of UC Berkeley students on campus safety plans

In troubling times, campus safety and emergency preparedness are a top priority at UC Berkeley. The campus has a clear, comprehensive emergency response plan – whether the emergency is an earthquake, fire or power outage, or a war-related crisis.

Campus residence halls have shelter-in-place plans (when it is safest to stay indoors), and evacuation plans if necessary. The campus is equipped with an emergency siren system, and emergency routes and instructions are posted prominently in every campus building.

In the event of an emergency, there are several ways for you (and your student) to get accurate, up-to-date information about the campus:

Many campus units collaborate in emergency planning and response, including the offices of the Chancellor, Dean of Students, Housing and Dining, Emergency Preparedness, the UC Police and Public Affairs. Working together, they make sure UC Berkeley is ready in the event of a disaster on campus or nearby.
