Memorial service for Alan Dundes

– A memorial service for the late Alan Dundes, a renowned University of California, Berkeley, professor of anthropology and folklore, will be held on Friday, April 22, in the Chevron Auditorium at International House.

The program will begin at 1 p.m. International House is at 2299 Piedmont Ave. in Berkeley, at the intersection of Bancroft Way. The auditorium has a seating capacity of 460.

Dundes is credited with the construction of the field of modern folklore studies and training many of its most distinguished scholars. He began teaching at UC Berkeley in 1963, and for decades his courses were among the most sought after on campus.

Dundes collapsed of an apparent heart attack on March 30 at Giannini Hall on campus while teaching a graduate seminar.
