UC Berkeley In Brief

University Drive closed to vehicles at Memorial Glade July 18-Aug. 20

– University Drive will be closed to vehicle traffic near Haviland Hall and "Heart Attack Hill" from July 18 until Aug. 20. Vehicles entering the campus from West Circle will be able to drive as far as the loading dock to Moffitt Library. Those entering from East Gate will have access to the Bancroft Library and roads south (toward Moses and Stephens Halls).

Pedestrian access in the area also will be limited. While access to the main (west) entrance to McCone will remain, the lower part of Heart Attack Hill will be closed. Pedestrians entering campus at North Gate should use the path near O’Brien and McLaughlin Halls to get to the central campus.

The graphic at right shows the closed work area and accessible paths of travel.

The closures are necessary to complete construction that will improve ADA-compliant paths of travel on the north side of Memorial Glade; install utilities to support the future Chang-Lin Tien Center for East Asian Studies; and improve fire truck access in the area.

If you have any questions about the construction, please contact Christine Shaff in Facilities Services at 3-4793 or cshaff@berkeley.edu. We apologize for any inconveniences this work causes and thank you for your patience with the construction.
