Homecoming week at the University of California, Berkeley.
Activities with excellent visuals for photographers and camera crews begin today (Monday, Sept. 23) and run through the weekend. The annual homecoming football game, this year between the Golden Bears and the Arizona Wildcats, takes place on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 4 p.m.
Among the highlights of this year's homecoming celebration are:
Tuesday, Sept. 27
"Growl on Sproul." 12 noon-1 p.m., Upper Sproul Plaza. Competitors have 30 seconds to belt out their best bear growl.
Wednesday, Sept. 28
Oski sketch competition. 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Upper Sproul Plaza. Cal alumni who work at Pixar Studios will judge the best two-minute sketch of Cal's mascot, Oski the Bear.
Thursday, Sept. 29
Cal Can Creation. 10 a.m.-12 noon, Lower Sproul Plaza. Donated canned food is turned into Cal-inspired sculpture before being given to the Alameda County Food Bank.
Battle of the Brains. 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m., West Pauley Ballroom. Faculty members take on a team of students and alumni in a trivia contest.
Friday, Sept. 30
Noon Rally. Upper Sproul Plaza. Performances by the Cal Band, Oski, dance teams, and more.
Homecoming Rally. 8:30 p.m., Haas Pavilion. Performances by the Cal Band, Berkeley Tae Kwon Do, and others.
Saturday, Oct. 1
6th Annual Cubfest and Homecoming Carnival. 12 noon-3 p.m., Memorial Glade. Kid-friendly festival in the hours before kickoff.
Homecoming Game. 4 p.m., Memorial Stadium. Golden Bears vs. Arizona Wildcats.
