WHAT
"Prospects: From Ideal to Real," the 5th annual Berkeley Nanotechnology Forum. The forum brings together hundreds of attendees from the Bay Area's top universities, national laboratories and research institutions, as well as businesspeople from industry, to hear about research and development priorities and to discuss some of the social, economic and political implications of nanotechnology. This year's theme represents nanotechnology's transition from laboratory experiments and theory to real products and widely accepted technological advances.

WHEN
8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Sunday, April 27

WHERE
The Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley. Registration is at the business school's Bank of America Forum in the Barbara and Gerson Bakar Faculty Building. The main presentations will take place at the school's Arthur Andersen Auditorium in the same building. Directions and a map are online at: http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/haas/maps.html.

WHO
This year's forum will feature panels on nanoelectronics, solar technology, health care, business and public policy, poster sessions and talks by such distinguished speakers as:

  • Supriyo Datta, Thomas Duncan Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University and director of the NASA Institute for Nanoelectronics and Computing
  • Liwei Lin, a professor in UC Berkeley's Department of Mechanical Engineering and co-director of the Berkeley Sensor & Actuator Center
  • Donald Lucas, staff scientist in the Environment Energy Technologies Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory

DETAILS
The Berkeley Nanotechnology Forum is an annual conference organized by the Berkeley Nanotechnology Club and held at UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business. The forum and club are sponsored by the UC Berkeley Center of Integrated Nanomechanical Systems, UC Berkeley Nanosciences and Nanoengineering Institute, the Molecular Foundry at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Chevron Molecular Diamond Technologies, Hitachi, the Associated Students of the University of California, and UC Berkeley's Physics Department, College of Chemistry and College of Engineering.
