BERKELEY — Broadcom Corp. has donated more than 400 servers to UC Berkeley, and Information Services and Technology is making them available to any campus department at no cost.
The three- to four-year-old servers, which were replaced at Broadcom as part of their regular upgrade program, can be co-located at the campus data center, used as part of the CalHPC high-performance computing cluster, or hosted locally in a department's own server rack.
More information on the servers, including technical specs and details on the donation program, are available from the IST website.
Broadcom, a large chip-design firm based in Irvine, Calif., is a longtime supporter of the UC system. IST officials estimate the value of the company's server donation at more than $140,000.
