BERKELEY — A team from the UC Berkeley campus raised approximately $15,000 for Bay Area AIDS/HIV services through their participation in the 2009 AIDS Walk San Francisco.
The Cal group left Sharon Meadow, in Golden Gate Park "at a snail's pace" — along with 25,000 other people — "and made our way through the starting line," says Public Affairs staffer Emily Strange, who did the six-plus mile course with her 11-year-old daughter, Athena. "Along the way we were entertained by belly dancers, the Cal Band, swing dancers, protesters, the AIDS Walk's very own naked guy, and many other colorful characters (and their dogs) who joined us along the path."
Altogether, the 2009 AIDS Walk raised more than $3.5 million for HIV and AIDS services in the Bay Area.
