MEDIA ADVISORY -- Berkeley Pledge Update

What: Press briefing by University of California at Berkeley Chancellor Chang-Lin Tien, who will give a six-month update on the Berkeley Pledge.

The pledge is a statewide outreach program launched last September by Tien in partnership with Bay Area K-12 school superintendents. It promises California students that UC Berkeley will maintain a diverse student body .

WHEN: 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 29.

WHERE: The Chancellor's Conference Room, on the second floor of California Hall.

WHY: Tien and other speakers will unveil recommendations made by a new UC Berkeley Outreach Task Force on how best to implement the pledge. They also will share the highlights of a recent two-day conference on the pledge that the campus held with four Bay Area school districts -- Berkeley, Oakland, San Francisco and West Contra Costa County. And, they will give an update on successful fund raising efforts and pledge activities, including the establishment of the Interactive University and the Berkeley Academy.
