Assemblywoman Dion Aroner Gives Update on New California Welfare Plan

How California's low-income families and counties will fair under the new state welfare plan will be the subject of a lecture by Assemblywoman Dion Aroner (D-Berkeley).

The bill, which ends 60 years of automatic entitlements, imposes time limits on benefits and requires every adult on welfare to work. Aroner, who voted against the bill, will discuss how broad partnerships must be created to assist counties and local communities in dealing with the increased burden and explore how barriers to unemployment can be broken.

Aroner's visit is sponsored by the School of Social Welfare and begins at 2 p.m. in 116 Haviland Hall. (Media Contact: Paul Terrell (510) 642-8039)
