Last year, Cal athletics had yet another outstanding season. Cal's 27 varsity sports teams ranked seventh nationally in overall excellence in the Directors' Cup standings; it was the Bears fifth Top-10 finish in the past six years. Overall, eight of Cal's teams that compete under the NCAA banner placed among the nation's Top 10.
