Aspin, Ma Among Regents' Lecturers

From US policymaker Les Aspin to world-famous cellist Yo-Yo Ma, the campus is hosting a baker's dozen of distinguished guests as 1994-95 Regents' Lecturers.

Most of the stays range from a few days to three weeks, often at the lecturer's choice. Dates of most of the visits are not yet determined.

Ma's visit was the shortest--a day was all his schedule allowed. He was hosted by the Department of Music.

Aspin, former secretary of defense, hopes to spend a week here in the spring. He will be the guest of the Graduate School of Public Policy, Department of Political Science, and the Department of Economics.

Other Regents' Lectures are:

Joan Acocella, international dance critic, senior editor of Dance Magazine and author of a biography of Mark Morris.

She is due to visit the Department of Dramatic Art and the Doreen B. Townsend Center for the Humanities.

Astronomer Jean Audouze will be the guest of the Department of Astronomy.

Algerian novelist and film maker Assia Djebar will be visiting the French Department.

The College of Environmental Design will host Joseph Edmiston, executive director of the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. Author and journalist Nicholas Lemann is to visit the Graduate School of Journalism.

Allan Lind, senior research fellow at the American Bar Foundation, is the guest of the Department of Psychology.

The School of Social Welfare is hosting Richard O'Neil, director of the Social Service Agency of Santa Clara County.

Poet and essayist Luis Rodriguez will be the guest of the English Department from Nov. 14-19, while novelist Robert Stone will visit for a yet undetermined week.

United Steelworkers of America's retiring president, Lynn Williams, will visit the Haas School of Business, Department of Economics, and Institute of Industrial Relations for two weeks of his choice.

German novelist Christa Wolf hopes to spend three weeks in the spring semester, hosted by the German Department.
