 Computer Classes

Have you ever wanted to learn more about software you already use or venture into new, unknown territory of software you don't use?

Information Systems and Technology offers a number of beginning and intermediate level half-day and full-day PC and Macintosh microcomputer classes Oct. 2 to Nov. 7. Most classes have prerequisites.

Walk-in classes offered on Saturdays are free. During weekdays, full-day classes are $95, half day classes are $50.

Employee Development And Training Classes

Financial Controls/Quantitative Analysis - Oct. 3 and 10 (8:30 a.m.-noon).

Using examples of university budget and financial data, participants learn how to identify key data, how to determine their meaning and how to present data effectively. Please bring a calculator to class.

Working in Teams II: Workshop No. 3 - Oct. 16 (9:15-11:45 a.m.).

A true consensus process will generate energy and commitment among team members to follow through and support the final decision. Find out what it takes to put consensus decision making into practice.

Job Mobility - Oct. 17 and 18 (8:30 a.m.-noon).

Have you reached a plateau in your current job and are wondering what job options are available? This class is designed to answer these questions and explore the employment options and opportunities on campus for current Berkeley employees.

Managing and Mediating Conflict in the Workplace (for managers and supervisors only) - Oct. 21 (8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.)

Assess your own style of dealing with conflict. Learn how to select the appropriate strategy for managing workplace conflicts, how to maintain neutrality in order to mediate conflicts, and skills of effective listening and speaking. You will have an opportunity to learn supervisory mediation through role playing.

Strategic and Operational Planning: The Basis for Developing Budgets and Managing Resources Oct. 22 (8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) and Oct. 29 (8:30 a.m.-noon).

Participants will learn how to formulate departmental goals and objectives, relate these to higher level strategies and goals, identify means to measure whether or not departmental objectives are met, develop departmental action plans, and monitor/control operational actions and budgets to meet objectives. Participants will learn how to identify and calculate fixed and variable costs and will practice preparing variance, historical and comparative reports.

First workshop in a four-part series, cosponsored with Health* Matters. Learn self-care techniques, coping skills and stress reduction.

Tune-In to Your Body (co-sponsored with Health*Matters) - Oct. 10 (11 a.m.-1 p.m.).

Many of us suffer the physical discomforts of stress until our bodies finally say "enough!" This workshop will help you identify signs that stress is getting the better of you and how you can plan your lifestyle habits to help you stay healthy.

Emergency Preparedness at Work and at Home - Oct. 3 (12:10-1 p.m. ).

Cal Adventures

The following upcoming outdoor recreation courses are open to faculty, students and staff only. The cost for each class is $20. To register call 642-4000.

Basic Sea Kayaking - Oct. 4 (9 a.m.-1:30 p.m.).

Participants meet at the aquatic center to learn the basics.

Introduction to Rock Climbing - Oct. 5 (5:30-8 p.m.).

Taught on the Recreational Sports Facility climbing wall, this four-hour class is a convenient and affordable introduction to the sport of climbing.

Basic Windsurfing - Oct. 11 (5:30-8 p.m.)

Enjoy the weather while you learn how to harness the wind. Participants meet at the aquatic center.
