Darling Named a New UC System VP

Bruce B. Darling, former vice chancellor for development and university relations at UC San Diego, has been appointed vice president for university and external relations for the UC system. The appointment was effective Nov. 1.

Darling, 44, was selected after a nationwide search. He succeeds William B. Baker, who retires after a UC career spanning more than 33 years.

As vice president for university and external relations, Darling is responsible for acquisition of UC's operating and capital budgets. He also supervises the university's governmental relations programs in both Sacramento and Washington, D.C., communications with the news media and the public, and development of policies related to alumni and fundraising activities.
