Quilters' Tribute

Financial Aid Office staff members Meg Fink, Marilyn Peck, Lynnette Pham and Olga Tapia display a quilt specially designed and created for Financial Aid Director Richard W. Black (right).

The staff presented Black with the quilt depicting his "life in progress" at a Nov. 14 ceremony in the Lipman Room, Barrows Hall. Black was honored with a "best of the best" lifetime achievement award in recognition of his consistent support of efforts to implement innovative change during his 14 years of leadership.

Staff master quilters Sue Gerber, Lynette Pham and Olga Tapia transferred snapshots from Black's life to fabric. Quilt "books" were embroidered with the names of each of the units within the office.

"The patchwork of the quilt appropriately celebrates Black's commitment to the diverse student services of the Financial Aid Office," the "best of the best" committee said. "The quilt 'books' applaud his commitment to education and his accomplishments as an author. The photographs reflect successes in the various arenas of his life."
