Cal Team Pedals for AIDS Ride Fundraiser

posted June 10, 1998

Sunday, May 31 marked Day Zero for 2,600 California AIDS Riders taking off on bicycles from San Francisco and heading for Los Angeles one pedal stroke at a time. The ride, organized to raise funds for AIDS research, included 49 blue and gold Cal Team cyclists who pedaled about 80 miles per day, covering the 560 miles by Saturday, June 6.

Cyclists are required to raise at least $2,500 each to participate in the ride. This year, more than $9 million was raised by the time the riders pointed their bikes toward L.A.

This year, five other AIDS rides at various cities across America are expected to raise $25 million for HIV and AIDS service organizations.

Since 1993, cyclists have raised $68 million through AIDS Rides.
