Frightful Family Fun: Mysteries of the Atom Unfold at LHS Posted September 29, 1999 The Atoms Family visits the Lawrence Hall of Science, beginning Saturday, Oct. 2, for three months of electrifying exploration of energy, electricity and matter. Such famous ghouls as the Phantom of the Opera, Dracula, Wolf Man and the Mummy will guide visitors through Gothic environments filled with hands-on activities, demonstrations and experiments. Participants can learn more about the basic principals of matter, the properties of light, waves and particles, various forms of energy and fuel sources and energy saving ideas. A diffusion cloud chamber, a glowing Omnisphere that creates a lightning effect, and a nuclear fission simulator will help demonstrate these concepts. Opening day celebrations begin at 10 a.m. and include solar cooking experiments, edible atoms and live demonstrations of the "howls" and whys of energy. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for children 7 to 18, seniors, disabled and students, and $2 for children 3-6. Parking is 50 cents per hour.
