Dominican Visit

Leonel Fernandez Reyna, president of the Dominican Republic, and a large delegation of government officials, businessmen and members of the Dominican press, made a stop at Berkeley Sept. 30, during their 12-day tour of Taiwan and the United States. The Dominican elite toured Lawrence Berkeley Labs and were briefed, at their request, on campus's Interactive University project.

After presentations on three Interactive University internet-based learning programs for K-12 students, the delegation drove directly to San Francisco, where along with 61,000 other fans, they saw the Dodgers beat the Giants in their last game at "Stick."

Delegation member Juan Marichal, the greatest pitcher in the Giant's Candlestick history and now the D.R.'s minister of sports, threw the first pitch of the game.
