A memorial service has been scheduled for Woodrow Borah, a Latin American history expert and Berkeley professor emeritus, who died Dec. 10.

The service will run from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 30, at Temple Beth El in Berkeley, 2301 Vine St. All friends and colleagues are invited.

For information, contact the synagogue at (510) 848-3988.

Borah, one of the most active and influential scholars working to reconstruct the colonial experience in Spanish America, died at age 86, following a long illness.

John Hewitt

The Lawrence Hall of Science and the community suffered a loss with the recent passing of John Hewitt, an outstanding teacher and amateur astronomer.

Hewitt shared the beauty and excitement of astronomy with thousands of children and adults in planetarium shows, classes, camps and teacher workshops, and hosted the Saturday Night Stargazing on the LHS plaza for more than 10 years.

There was a remembrance of Hewitt at the Lawrence Hall of Science on Saturday, Jan. 22. Friends, colleagues, and those inspired by Hewitt were among those in attendance.
