News Briefs Posted March 15, 2000 2000-2001 Leadership Development Program Seeks Applications The Leadership Development Program is now taking applications for the 2000-2001 program, offered by Employee Development & Training, Office of Human Resources. The application deadline is May 1. Participants in the 1999-2000 program are just about to graduate, and a new group will begin this June. The 12-month program is designed to strengthen the leadership competencies and practices of 25 participants. Learning takes place through case study groups, coaching, classes, participation in analytical project teams and assessment activities. Employees at the Management Services Officer and analyst levels and above are invited to apply. Applicants should have current leadership responsibilities (for a unit or department, teams or projects). The cost for the program is $650 (payed by the department). UC Launches Its Own TV Station With the launching of its new television station, the University of California's can share the research of its faculty and students with nearly 3 million potential viewers around the world. UCTV will feature lectures, interviews, research symposia, distinguished speakers and artistic performances 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It's mission is to educate and enrich the lives of viewers. Programs focus on topics -- such as science, technology, health, arts and humanities -- as well as individual campuses. "In an era of 90-second news stories, there is a real need for in-depth coverage of ideas and issues that affect the lives of people everywhere," said UC President Richard Atkinson. The station is available on EchoStar's Dish Network satellite television service on channel 9412. The programs are also broadcast live on the Internet at www.uctvonline.org.
