Doe Library windows touch up

Doe Library's windows and doors are being stripped and repainted as part of the campus's deferred maintenance program.

Scaffolding was installed on parts of Doe in late September, when the project began with stripping away the old paint. Since some paint contained lead, special abatement procedures were followed with careful monitoring.

The final color will be the same bronze-green that was used on the original windows. By late November, weather permitting, the windows should be completed.

The project is managed by Capital Projects, in cooperation with Environment Health and Safety, Physical Plant - Campus Services and the Library.

Schell featured in Writers at Work

Orville Schell, dean of the Graduate School of Journalism, will be the featured writer at the Writers at Work series, noon, Thursday, Oct. 26, in the Morrison Library, 101 Doe.

Schell will read from his works, be interviewed about his writing process and answer questions from the audience. Schell received his B.A. from Harvard and did Ph.D. work in the Department of History at Berkeley. A renowned China scholar and journalist, Schell also writes on a wide variety of other topics, from Jerry Brown, the meat industry, and General MacArthur, to churches in Moscow.

The Writers at Work series provides a forum for campus writers to discuss their writing, from gathering material and crafting the framework of a piece, to creating a mood, editing and revising.

For information, contact the College Writing Programs at 642-5570.
