Candidates sought for retirement board

10 Jan 2001 | Employees who are active members of the University of California Retirement Plan but not members of the Academic Senate are invited to run for election to the University of California Retirement System Advisory Board. The non-Academic Senate members of the retirement plan will vote in March to fill one board vacancy. The term will be April 1, 2001 through June 30, 2004.

Candidates may be from any UC location except UCLA, where incumbent representative Lori Stein is employed. The board's two non-Academic Senate representatives must be from different locations.

Nomination packets may be picked up from the Human Resources - Benefits Unit, 247 University Hall. Office hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Interested candidates must submit a brief biographical statement and a petition signed by at least 50 active plan members who are not Academic Senate members. Completed packets must be received by Friday, Jan. 19.

The following individuals are not eligible for membership: Office of the President employees directly engaged in making retirement system policy, or who work in a department where policy is made, or who provide legal advice to the retirement plan, tax-deferred 403(b) plan, or Defined Contribution Plan, and all employees of the Offices of Internal Audit at each of the campuses, labs and Office of the President.

The board consists of nine members and meets four times a year at the Office of the President to exchange ideas with the president on matters concerning retirement system plans. These plans hold assets of more than $50 billion and represent the retirement interests of all members and participants of the UC retirement system. Members serve without compensation, but are reimbursed for necessary travel expenses.
