We are the champions


06 June 2001 | The Cal rugby team crushed Penn State last month to claim its 11th consecutive national title. The Bears smothered Pennís Nittany Lions by a score of 86 to 5, capturing their 18th national championship in the process.

The victory pushed Jack Clark, now in his 18th season as the Bearís head coach, over the 300 mark for collegiate wins.

Another national championship was won by the UC menís crew team, its third in a row, this past weekend in New Jersey. The Bears, coached by new Athletic Director Steven Gladstone, also clinched the Pac-10 championship in May.

In other sporting news, menís tennis head coach Peter Wright and baseball head coach David Esquer were named ďPac-10 Coach of the YearĒ for their respective sports.
