14 February 2002 | Former Massachusetts governor and former U.S. presidential candidate Michael Dukakis leads a workshop on planning, politics and pubic leadership on Friday, Feb. 8. While governor of Massachusetts, Dukakis enacted an economic development policy and communication system analyzed by Berkeley planning students in a paper published last year.

The workshop followed Dukakis’ public lecture in Sibley Auditorium of the Bechtel Engineering Center. Currently chair of the board of directors of Amtrak, Dukakis spoke on high-speed rail and the U.S. transportation crisis as a guest of Berkeley’s Institute of Urban & Regional Development and the UC Transportation Center.
