Memorial for Matt Lyon is Feb. 28
A campus memorial for Matt Lyon, assistant vice chancellor for public affairs, will be held at 4 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 28, in the Club Room of Haas Pavilion.

Volunteer for March 8 campus spring cleaning
Faculty, staff and students are invited to volunteer time during Cal Clean-Up Day, scheduled for noon to 3 p.m., Friday, March 8.

Participants will meet in Sproul Plaza for assignments. Areas targeted for clean-up include the south side of campus, such as the intersection of Bancroft Way and Telegraph Avenue, and “Frat Row” on Piedmont Ave. Food and drink will be provided during the event. Nominations sought for management excellence award
Nominations are sought for the annual Excellence in Management Awards, sponsored by the Berkeley Staff Assembly. Nominations must come from staff directly supervised by the nominee, and they must include supporting signatures from at least one-half of these staff.

A nomination form is available on the Berkeley Staff Assembly web site bsa.berkeley.edu/. Send nominations to BSA Excellence in Management Committee Chair Marilyn Barulich, 103 Kroeber Hall, #3712, by March 28. Awards will be announced at a May 23 ceremony at I-House.

Education Abroad seeks directors for Australia, Chile
The universitywide office of the Education Abroad Program is seeking study center directors in Australia and Chile.

Tenured faculty, including lecturers with security of employment and professors emeriti, are eligible to apply. The deadline for completed applications is March 22. Appli-cants must be fluent in the language of the host country and demonstrate a broad knowledge of the country.

Daniel Greenstein will head California Digital Library
The Office of the President has appointed librarian Daniel Greenstein as university librarian and executive director of the California Digital Library, effective May 1. He will lead one of the largest programs of digital library content and services in the country.

“Daniel Greenstein has been a world leader in pioneering the scholarly use of electronic communications and database access for researchers,” UC President Richard Atkinson said in announcing the appointment. “We are fortunate that we were able to bring him to the university and the California Digital Library.”

Greenstein is director of the Digital Library Federation in Washington, D.C., which helps libraries throughout the nation with issues related to digital collections.

The Berkeley Citation, one of the highest honors that Berkeley confers, is awarded to exceptional faculty and staff upon their retirement. It recognizes extraordinary achievement in their fields, coupled with outstanding service to the campus. The Distinguished Service Award recognizes superior staff contributions to the campus.

Nominations for the Berkeley Citation must be extensively documented. Those for a Distinguished Service Award should include a nominating letter and at least two supporting letters. Nominations may be made at any time during the year.
