After 35 years on the Berkeley faculty, Bill Webster (left), vice provost for academic planning and facilities, retires this month. Chancellor Robert Berdahl and Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Paul Gray were among the well-wishers at a retirement party at the Faculty Club on April 9. So were Dean Richard Newton and colleagues from the College of Engineering, where Webster is professor of civil and environmental engineering and spent many years as associate dean for student affairs. As vice provost for the past four years, he spearheaded the development of the campus’s forward-looking strategic academic plan. His staff delivered the verdict on his years of service: t-shirts that proclaim “Webster Rules” above a drawing of his trademark horn-rimmed glasses.
