Former President Bill Clinton at Cal

Clinton with wearing Berkeley Medal

Clinton looks out at the sea of more than 2,000 members of the campus community jammed into Zellerbach Hall for the occasion. During his talk, he recalled that the first time he came to the Berkeley campus was as a young man in 1971. At the time, Nixon was president and had just imposed wage and price controls on the economy. Clinton said that memory, of a Republican taking such an action, showed just how much the world had changed since then. Noah Berger photo
