JEOPARDY! COMES TO CAL

The popular TV game show taped its 10-episode College Championship tournament in Zellerbach Hall. This was the first Jeopardy! College Championship filmed on a college campus and only the second time the show has left its Los Angeles studio.

Fifteen college students with a knack for facts were selected from schools across the country to compete in this ultimate battle of the brains. Berkeley senior Catherine Landers was the only contestant who was a Cal student.

Landers prepared herself for the tournament by watching Jeopardy! every night and playing the show's home game in the weeks leading up to the taping. She outscored two players in the first round of competition by skillfully answering questions in categories such as "Relatively Simple Physics," "Guinness Records," "It Followed Me Home," "What's for Breakfast," "The Dreaded Opera Category" and "MTV." Landers was knocked out of the tournament in the semi-finals.
