U.N.'S KOFI ANNAN VISITS CAMPUS

Still riding on a wave of goodwill following his successful mediation of the February conflict between the United States and Iraq, United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan was greeted warmly by the campus when he visited last April. Annan spoke to a full house at Zellerbach Auditorium about the U.N.'s role in preventing war and promoting peace. His speech was followed by an on-stage question and answer session with a panel of eight Berkeley students, several of whom were from the Peace and Conflict Studies program. Annan is the third U.N. secretary-general to visit the Berkeley campus.
