Campus Wires Berkeley High School
The campus contributed to "NetDay" this spring by wiring Berkeley High School with a speedy ethernet backbone in two buildings, installing 25 network outlets in 12 classrooms, and bringing 42 computers online. Later, volunteers returned to finish the classroom wiring and install a fiber optic cable between the two networked buildings.

NetDay 96 was a grassroots volunteer effort throughout California, championed by both President Clinton and Vice President Gore, to wire schools for access to the Internet.

Berkeley's effort was funded mainly by Chancellor Tien as part of the Berkeley Pledge to maintain a diverse student body. Volunteers ranged from high school students to retired professors.
