      Cal athletes travel to Atlanta including head U.S. track and field coach Erv Hunt. Bevy of Bears to Compete in Olympics
Cal's storied Olympic tradition will continue at the 1996 games in Atlanta, Ga.

Seven former Cal athletes were selected for the U.S. and other teams early. Dozens of athletes were going through competitions to make teams at press time.

Olympians include: Michele Granger, '93, and Gillian Boxx, '95, softball; Fred Honebein, '91, and Laurel Korholz, '93, crew; Mark Henderson, '93, Akiko Thompson, '95 (Philippines), and current student Anna Simcic (New Zealand), swimming.

Three Cal coaches will also be at Atlanta. Head track coach Erv Hunt, assistant coach for the 1992 Olympics, is head track and field coach this time. Peter Wright, '86, will coach Ireland's men's tennis team, and Peter Cipollone is a U.S. crew coach.

More than 200 Cal athletes and coaches have participated in the Olympics, winning 72 gold medals.
