Local UPS Teamster President On Campus to Analyze Impact of Recent Strike

As the Teamsters celebrate victory in one of the nation's biggest strikes in more than a decade, business and labor leaders watch closely to see how the UPS agreement will affect future relations.

Chuck Mack, who represents 1200 UPS Teamsters in the Bay Area, will discuss critical policy issues the strike has raised, including part-time work, "union" benefit plans and strategies of the strike.

Noted Journalist and Former U.S. Asst. Attorney General Discusses Race and Media

The Journalism School will host an evening with Roger Wilkins, who shared a Pulitzer Prize with Woodward and Bernstein for Watergate coverage, as he analyzes the treatment of race by the media.

Wilkens has enjoyed a distinguished career in both journalism and government as a former member of The New York Times editorial board, former U.S. assistant attorney general and former chair of the Pulitzer Prize committee. He has also written numerous books, articles and documentaries on race, history and the media.

The 7 p.m. lecture will take place at the Journalism School in room 121 North Gate Hall.

Pulitzer Prize-Winning Poet Jorie Graham Gives Lunch-Time Reading

Pulitzer Prize winning poet Jorie Graham, who won the prize last year for her book "The Dream of a Unified Field," will read verse as part of "Lunch Poems," a series under the direction of former Poet Laureate Robert Hass. The New York Times Book Review described her work as "among the most sensuously emobdied and imaginative writing we have."
