Football fans join in salute to Chancellor Berdahl

As the third quarter came to an end during the Cal-Washington football game on Nov. 15 – the Bears' last home game of the season – the crowd paused to watch a Jumbotron tribute to UC Berkeley Chancellor Robert Berdahl, who has announced that he will step down in June 2004.
The short video highlighted Berdahl's achievements since taking office in July 1997, and, to the amusement of spectators, revealed his first failed and subsequent successful attempts at joining the Cal Band in a "Go Bears" cheer.
Earlier the crowd had applauded senior football players and band members, all in their final appearances in Memorial Stadium. Watching from the press box, Chancellor Berdahl accepted a similar cheer at his final home game as chancellor.
